Support Fund A Cure!

The funds raised through this year’s Fund A Cure program will benefit the Advanced Glucose Sensor Initiative, a program developed to accelerate the delivery of accurate and reliable continuous glucose sensors to market. More than $1.8 million has been raised for this exciting initiative!

For people living with type 1 diabetes, maintaining tight control over blood glucose levels is one of the most difficult aspects of managing the disease. No matter how diligently glucose levels are monitored, dangerous highs and lows are a constant threat. These highs and lows are the primary causes of complications, such as blindness, heart attack, kidney failure, stroke, nerve damage, and amputations.

The main objective of this initiative is to accelerate the development and regulatory approval of highly accurate and reliable continuous glucose sensing technologies. By addressing both sensor performance and the physical shape and size of the devices, thereby minimizing the burden of wearing such a device, they’ll be more accessible to the people who need them most.

Currently, continuous glucose monitors provide continuous readings and data about trends in glucose levels, which allow people with diabetes to understand the level of their glucose and whether it is rising or falling, and how to intervene. However, only two devices are currently approved by the FDA for use in addition to finger sticks. People must find them convenient and affordable.

JDRF is confident that through this initiative, not only will improvements to the physical shape and size reduce the barrier to using today’s continuous glucose sensor devices, but a leap forward in sensor performance will represent a major step in the goals of our Artificial Pancreas Project (APP) and, ultimately, a cure for diabetes. This research will keep people healthy today while focusing on a cure.

100% of all Fund A Cure donations will go directly to research in this initiative.
