Board Member
Joyce Sterk has over thirty years of experience in the insurance industry. For the past eight years she has worked in the Brand Protection and Financial Services (BPFS) Department of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA). The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association is a national federation of 39 independent, community-based and locally operated Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies (Licensees) that collectively provide healthcare coverage for nearly 100 million members - one-in-three Americans. Ms. Sterk is responsible for collecting, analyzing and publishing Licensee financial and enrollment results, and provides financial services to the Licensees.
Prior to joining BCBSA, Ms. Sterk was with CNA Insurance starting in traditional actuarial roles such as reserving and ratemaking, and then moving into financial analysis roles. Ms. Sterk was eventually appointed an officer of the company with the responsibility for managing CNAs rating agency relationships and their investor relations program.
Ms. Sterk holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Masters in Business Administration with concentrations in accounting and finance from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Ms. Sterk does volunteer work for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. She serves on the Illinois Chapter Board of Directors and on the Finance and Audit Committees of the International Board of Directors. Also, she is a member of the Board of Directors of Brother Rice High School in Chicago. Further, Ms. Sterk serves on the School of Business Advisory Board for Kendall College in Chicago.
